My name is Lorena Loayza, and I am proud to call Jersey City home. As a resident of Ward B, I have built my life, family, and career here, and I am deeply committed to serving the community that has shaped who I am today.
I was born in Bolivia and raised in the United States, where I learned the values of resilience, hard work, and community from a young age. As a proud mother of three amazing children, I know firsthand the challenges many families face, from balancing work and family to striving for better opportunities. These experiences have fueled my passion for making meaningful change, ensuring that every individual and family in Ward B has access to the resources and support they need to thrive.
I grew up on Fairmount Avenue and walked to P.S. # 17 since it was on Duncan Avenue. I attended Academy of St. Aloysius high school when it was on Kennedy Blvd. Having the opportunity to go to college out of state, I decided to attend St. Peter’s University. Having received all my schooling in Jersey City, I learned much more than academics. I learned the power of my community.
My professional background is rooted in entrepreneurship and community leadership. I currently serve as the Executive Director of two Business Improvement Districts and 2 Chambers of Commerce. In this role, I’ve worked closely with local businesses, residents, and city officials to promote economic growth, enhance public spaces, and foster a sense of community pride. I understand the importance of collaboration and the power of listening to diverse perspectives to create effective solutions.
In addition to my work, I am an advocate for youth programs, affordable housing, and small business development. I believe in creating a Jersey City where everyone, regardless of their background, has a fair shot at success. Whether it’s through identifying food deserts and bringing fresh, healthy options to our neighborhoods or supporting initiatives that empower our young people, I am committed to building a better future for all.
I am also a mother to three incredible children—Isabella, Sophie and Lucas- they are my greatest motivation and the heart of everything I do. Being their mother has taught me the importance of perseverance, compassion, and creating a better future for the next generation. Like so many parents in our community, I want our community to be safe and I work hard to ensure my children have the opportunities they need to succeed, and this drives my passion to serve all families in Ward B.
Running for councilperson in Ward B is a continuation of my lifelong commitment to service. I envision a Ward B where our streets are safe, our schools are supported, and our community thrives as a beacon of opportunity and inclusion. Together, we can make this vision a reality.
